Nate McCormick President Emerson DESIGN Committee Volunteer How long have you volunteered with the MCBD: 5 years What are your passions/interests outside of work: Family, sports and flying Why do you volunteer with the MCBD: I firmly believe that the success of our businesses, families, schools and downtown are deeply intertwined. Marshalltown’s size and strengths provide a unique opportunity for each of us to have a significant impact on the future of our community. Volunteering for the MBCD is my small way of helping to highlight and grow all the wonderful things that Marshalltown has to offer. Favorite Quote: Fortune favors the bold. -Virgil |
Cindy Parks VICE PRESIDENT Farmers Savings Bank -Main Street How long have you volunteered with the MCBD: July 2018 What are your passions/interests outside of work: I love spending time with family and friends. I also like running, reading and listening to music. Why do you volunteer with the MCBD: Because Main Street, Marshalltown is where I live and work. On days when I walk to and from work I want to meet more happy, smiling people! I want the next generation of Marshalltown residents (and visitors) to have the same positive experiences and fond memories (cherry sours from Spurgeons’s candy counter) of Marshalltown that I have. Favorite Quote: The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails. -William Arthur Ward |
Alushia Fitzgerald staging 2 sell it Promotions committee chair How long have you volunteered with the MCBD: 3 years as a promotions committee volunteer Since 2019 as a board member What are your passions/interests outside of work: Spending time with my husband and our two dogs, volunteering at the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown, traveling, listening to music, and art. I love going to baseball games (go Cubs) and have recently developed an interest for Rugby thanks to my husband. Why do you volunteer with the MCBD: Growing up we moved around a lot so I didn't really develop an attachment to one place until I lived in Chicago. Now that we have put down roots in Marshalltown I have this need for being part of a community. I really want to see the downtown area grow and thrive and become the hub it use to be. Favorite Quote: It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard...is what makes it great. - Jimmy Dugan |
DyAnne Henry creator of in stitches now retired Promotions Committee volunteer How long have you volunteered with the MCBD: I have been a Board Member since 2002, when we became a Main Street community. Thanks goes out to the persons who did all the hard work to get us there. What are your passions/interests outside of work: I love being creative, my mind is always thinking of ways to get that done. I was passionate about our work at In Stitches, but happy to turn those rains over to Terri and Dennis. My interests includes a new form of creativity for me called Zentangle. I add color to my life through my flower gardens and art nestled in and out of the gardens. So, when I am not Zentangling or gardening, I have knitting needles in my hands. I enjoy Zentangling and knitting on the boat while my hubby fishes, so relaxing. Why do you volunteer with the MCBD: I became a volunteer when we moved In Stitches downtown in 2001. I felt a strong need to give back to the community, a community that supported our dream of owning our own business and making it successful. It just felt right, a sense of community, we all wanted each other to succeed. Making Marshalltown a place we shop, dine, play, a place we call home. Favorite Quote: Not so much of a quote, but to treat others like you want to be treated, and above all else, be kind. |
Travis Hornberg QPS Employment Group DESIGN COMMITTEE CHAIR How long have you volunteered with the MCBD: Since 2020 What are your passions/interests outside of work: I enjoy spending as much time outdoors as work and weather permit. During the warmers months you will find me working on projects around the house, camping, or enjoying Grimes Farm and the trail system in Marshalltown. Our family spends most weekend mornings listening to our music collection. We look forward to our family road trips to attend concerts and shows. Why do you volunteer with the MCBD: I have lived and worked in Marshalltown all of my life. The central business district has been an important part of growing up and my professional life. I volunteer to provide a positive downtown experience for visitors, current and future residents of Marshalltown. How long have you volunteered with the MCBD: 1 year What are your passions/interests outside of work: I enjoy spending time with my family, fishing, and watching football. Why do you volunteer with the MCBD: I want to see the Main Street Business Community thrive and not just survive. To ask for change, you must take personal responsibility to help make those changes. Steve Troskey CGA Engineers Organizational Committee Chair How long have you volunteered with the MCBD: Since 2019, but I’ve been a volunteer for many years on various committees. What are your passions/interests outside of work: I have two young boys so taking them places to see and learn new things is my favorite activity. I play drums, guitar, and love playing pickleball at the YMCA. Also, anything Iowa State. Why do you volunteer with the MCBD: Downtowns are the heart of a community.
