Bee Involved
Development opportunities are available in our downtown community and we are looking for your input. Complete the online survey, available in English and Spanish, or visit us during MCBD’s Bee Ridiculous Day on Saturday, July 30th from 10 AM to 3 PM to share your vision.
We have the opportunity to redevelop two major corners in our Downtown and we are requesting your help in visioning the future of these sites. The devastating effects of the 2018 tornado and 2020 derecho resulted in new opportunities to see our downtown grow. Sites that have been impacted by environmental conditions can be identified as a brownfield site.
The City of Marshalltown was selected to receive an EPA Brownfield Community-wide Assessment Grant and is partnering on a Technical Assistance project with the EPA as well. Thanks to the work of various partners listed below, we are gathering input from the community over the next month as we approach the Bee Ridiculous Day event, where we will host a live community engagement activity. On Saturday, July 30th from 10 AM to 3 PM you can find our community partners at the southwest corner of Main and Center and Main and 1st Street. There, we will be gathering your ideas for how to redevelop each of the sites.
Astig Planning will be leading the effort with interactive opportunities for children and adults to share their vision for the future. Tap into your creative side and Reimagine Downtown Marshalltown!
For more information about our Brownfield Program visit the City website: www.marshalltown-ia.gov/brownfields Special thanks to the partners involved in this project: EPA, IDNR, KSU TAB, ICF, Impact7G, Astig Planning, Marshalltown Central Business District and Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce.
Brownfields 101 What is a brownfield site? - It is a property or area that is not being used to its full urban development potential. Brownfields are often abandoned sites or pieces of land no longer used by current businesses. Before brownfield land can be reused, it must undergo what is known as brownfield redevelopment or land recycling.
